At our upcoming library lounge, we are committed to providing our neighbors and guests with an immersive and authentic experience that reflects the local culture and environment. That's why we source our materials locally, ensuring that our guests not only enjoy the best in comfort and convenience but also have their senses stimulated by the rich sights, sounds, and flavors of the surrounding area.
Rooftop bar & terrace
The bar and terrace will have direct street access and feature ample greenery and gardens, providing a perfect place for neighbors to gather and socialize with the locals. With an impressive view of the city, this is expected to become a hotspot for visitors seeking a unique and enjoyable experience.
SUSTAINABILITY
The Renaissance Amsterdam Hotel is committed to sustainability, with a range of initiatives that help us reduce our carbon footprint and promote community-friendly practices. We're proud to say that we take sustainability seriously, and our efforts extend across every aspect of our renovation and operations.
The renovated hotel is operating entirely on electricity which is being supplied from renewable sources including from our own solar panels. To further reduce our carbon footprint, we are installing air source heat pumps as well as a system that uses geothermal energy, tapping into the natural heat of the earth to provide heating and cooling. And to reduce the amount of energy we require in the first place, we are investing in improved insulation, more efficient equipment, and smart guestroom controls.
One of our most striking new features are our vertical gardens on the façade, which don’t only add a stunning visual element to the building but also help to improve air quality and provide habitat for local wildlife. We are also installing green roofs including a community allotment to improve the health and wellbeing of our neighbours.
We prioritize the use of local materials in our construction to both support local employment and reduce our carbon footprint. We select suppliers who can demonstrate their own sustainable code of conduct and screen products for their environmental impact. Our contractors also operate initiatives including use of a distribution hub, which helps to consolidate journeys and reduce traffic and harmful emissions in the city center.
We aim for 95% of demolition material to be reused or recycled. For instance, our old furniture is already being repurposed in Romania and we have worked with our designers to upcycle old lighting elements into beautiful new installations.
Whilst renovation is underway, we continue to work on improving sustainability across our operations. For example, looking at how to remove single use plastic, developing low food waste catering options and sourcing local products. We aim to achieve BREEAM In-Use Excellent post renovation, a globally recognized, third-party assessed certification for sustainable buildings in operation.

As part of our ongoing commitment to providing a unique and inspiring experience for our guests, we're excited to introduce a new wooden tower that's inspired by the different species of trees found throughout Amsterdam. The tower will house 34 Reflective rooms, each designed to promote relaxation and introspection.
